My Wedding – From Hair and Makeup to Walking Down the Aisle

From Happily Single to Happily Married Series

Many people say your wedding day goes by so fast, that you forget most of what happened.  To me, that is the furthest thing from the truth.  I remember so many moments from my wedding and I am so excited to share them with you!  Today, I am going to be sharing my wedding day from the moment my alarm clock went off, to the moments just before walking down the aisle.

It started around 7:30 on June 18th, 2016.  I heard my annoying alarm clock go off, and can you believe it?….I pressed snooze.  On my own wedding day?!  Ha, I still laugh thinking about that.  This girl loves her sleep.  After it went off for the second time, an overwhelming feeling came over me.  IT WAS MY WEDDING DAY.  I hopped right out of bed and started getting all my things together.

A few friends and I drove downtown and headed for Hilbert Circle Theatre.  Of course, for the first time in my life, I was early.  So we decided to sip on some Starbucks and relax outside on a bench, laughing and giggling in anticipation of the day ahead.

When the doors finally opened, we went in and got the party started!  We ate all kinds of food, listened to music, and began getting ready.  I hired both a hair stylist and makeup artist to do my hair and makeup for the day.  For hair, I went with it down, but to the side, with vintage looking curls. We had to try this look a few times before we finally got it right. My hair does not like to curl, so I sat in pins for a few hours, followed by a lot of hair spray, ha!  For makeup, I decided on pink lips, pink blush, a brown/rose gold smoky eye, and major contour. 🙂

My bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done as well.  I know some brides are super picky about how their bridesmaids look.  But I wanted them to genuinely look like and be themselves.  I didn’t care how they wore their hair, what their makeup looked like, what nail polish they were wearing, or if they even wore the jewelry I bought for their gifts.  I wanted my friends to be who they were, because that’s why I love them.  For their dresses, we chose to go to Alfred Angelo.  I picked out the color, “Ballerina”, however they had the choice as to what dress flattered them the most.  All my bridesmaids wore completely different dresses and it’s funny, because if you laid the dresses out in front of me, I could have known who would pick what style.

As we were all getting ready, I had this overwhelming feeling of happiness.  Today was the day that God would join Ross and I together as man and wife. How could anything go wrong?  Weeeeellllll, I guess that’s all in your perspective.  The day was perfect to me, however, there were a few hiccups along the way.

First of all, I forgot the important stuff (my garter, my veil, etc.).  The problem was easily solved when Ross’ brother became the hero of the day, driving back twice to pick it all up.  🙂  Another problem arose when I walked to the reception area and realized that the florist had out golden charger plates on all of the tables.  Where those came from, I don’t know?  They were beautiful, but not what I was going for.  I wanted crisp and simple centerpieces, complete with different sized vases and candles.  My bridesmaids had that one all handled. And lastly, my flowers weren’t the color I asked for.  I asked for a simple white bouquet, and ended up with pink & white.  Were they pretty?  Absolutely!  Once again, just not what I had asked for.  When you pay so much money for your wedding, it can be disappointing when you don’t get what you agreed upon.  However, at the end of the day, who cares!  It didn’t change my day at all, and if those were the only problems I had?  I’ll take it!

After we were all ready and finished tackling the small problems that arose, we were ready to take pictures!  We headed down the elevator, and took a bunch of photos outside.  It was so fun to get to spend those moments with my friends, leading up to walking down the aisle.  Looking back at that time, I smile and almost cry.  These girls were the women who chose to stand by my side, who were there to support me, and who were there to make my day even brighter.  What an amazing feeling it is to have friends in your life that make you feel pure happiness.

When we got back inside, the guests began to arrive. This is when my nerves started going crazy.  I was so nervous about everything, but kept it pretty cool on the outside.  More than anything, I was excited.  Excited to marry Ross and spend the day with the people who meant the most to us.   As I began my journey to the aisle, I looked around and savored my last moments as a single woman with my friends. They all hugged me and began their descent down the aisle.  As my mom and I stood in the doorway, we tightly held hands and smiled.  For we knew this moment was the most important moment of my life, so far. My mom and I held back the tears the best we could as we walked down the aisle, staring at the man who would soon become my husband.

These moments leading up to my marriage, are moments that I will never forget.  The feelings I felt were raw, strong, and amazingly perfect.  Thank you so much for reading the first part of my wedding day!  I cannot wait to share the second half of my wedding day coming up soon.

What were some moments you took away from your wedding day?  Or, what is most important to you when you think about the day you’ll become a married woman?  I would love to hear! 🙂
