Hey ladies! I’m so excited to finally share my hair care routine with you! I’ve tried so many different products, but am happy to bring you the products and tips I’ve found that help grow my hair to be long and healthy.
Listed below are the products and specific brands I use:
- Coconut oil, Moroccan Oil
- Shampoos I love: Restore Shampoo, Color Maintenance Shampoo, Nutrient Rich Shampoo
- Conditioners/Hair Masks I love: Nourishing Hair Mask, Strengthening Conditioner, Hydrating Conditioner
- Hair Brush
- Tangle Spray
- Frizz Spray
- Blow Dry Spray
- Blow Dryer
- Straightener
- Shine Spray
Every week or so, I start my hair care routine off with a coconut oil mask. You can buy coconut oil at any grocery store. I’m not brand specific, as long as it is 100% coconut oil. I run the coconut oil through my hair and let it sit for an hour or longer before I start my shower. *Coconut oil is said to condition, stimulate hair growth, tame frizz, and prevent/treat dandruff. (I use weekly.)
After my hair sits for about an hour, I am ready to wash it out and shampoo. I always change up my shampoo and conditioner/hair mask. After doing some research of my own, I found that your hair can get “used” to shampoos and conditioners. It’s good to change them up, but I always make sure to buy from reputable brands with amazing reviews. I listed my favorites that I switch between in the above links.
Okay, so here is the really weird part. For my final rinse, I ALWAYS use freezing cold water. The cold water closes your hair cuticles and allows hydration to lock in. *Cold water rinses are said to help keep your hair shiny, less frizzy, hydrated, and soft.
The moment I step out of the shower, I go straight for my hair oil and frizz spray. After I’ve finished putting them both on, I pull my hair back in a bun and wait for it to air dry. As you can see, I avoid brushing my hair after a shower. It can lead to unwanted tearing and breakage.
When I do have to blow dry my hair, I always brush it first. I make sure to spray my favorite tangle spray, Johnson and Johnson’s, throughout my hair before brushing. Seriously that stuff is the best I’ve ever tried. Who would have thought!?
After I’m done brushing my hair, I will spray a protective blow dry spray throughout. I’ll blow dry and style, followed by a shine spray, to help add that extra smooth glossiness. I love the after effect of a little added shine, it has seriously has changed my hair game.
Reading this through sounds like so many steps, but trust me, it is super easy to maintain and do. When it comes down to it, my three most important tips would be…
- Try to avoid hot tools as often as possible.
- Invest in good hair oils.
- Try a shine spray to lock in a glossy/smooth look. My favorite is listed above.
What questions or tips and tricks do you have?
Until next time,
Katelyn
