Eyelash Extensions

Do I want eyelash extensions?  Do they hurt?  Are they expensive?  How long do they stay on?  Do they hurt my natural lashes? How do the eyelash extensions come off? Where do I go to get them?  How do I take care of my lashes?  Can I put mascara on my lashes?

These are all questions I had before I took the leap of faith to get eyelash extensions.  If you want to learn more about eyelash extensions, you’ve come to the right place!

I’ve had both good and bad experiences with extensions.  I started out wanting lash extensions for my engagement shoot.  I thought they would add a pop and stand out in pictures.  I went to a reputable place and had them done a few days before the photo shoot.  They were fine and I could definitely tell a difference.  However, even after day one, the lashes started falling out in clumps.  By day 3, most of my lashes had fallen out.  I went back a few months later to the same salon, but received a different esthetician.   I was excited to try them out again and was hoping for different results with a differnt esthetician.  However, same thing, most fell out a few days later.

It wasn’t until I went to a different salon and used a different brand of lash extensions that they changed my life.  I went to a salon that uses Novalash extensions.  So AMAZING. Novalash has all different lengths and sizes for the perfect fit for you.  I’ve had them on for about a year and a half now and don’t know how I will ever be able to stop getting them filled!

Questions:

 Do I want eyelash extensions?

This is something you have to ask yourself.  I personally love them because they are already voluminous and perfect when you wake up.  It’s less makeup, less time, and confidence boosting (at least for me).

Do eyelash extensions hurt?

No, no, and no.  They do not hurt while they are put on, nor do they ever hurt any time after.  The only time I have ever had any pain was when I rubbed my eye really hard and a lash got stuck.  Yes, it hurt and was not pleasant because there was something foreign in my eye.  However, I have learned how to manage itching my eye, if need be.  I think this was the one thing I had to get used to.  I couldn’t go to town rubbing my eye.  But hey, I’ve heard that causes wrinkles anyways. 🙂

Are they expensive?

Yes AND no.  Depending on where you live and the salon you go to, prices range from about $25 to $400 a fill. Yes, it’s a huge window.  With being in Indy, I have seen prices all over the place.  We all want to get a deal and paying $400 for lash extensions just sounds completely silly.  However, on the flip side, I wouldn’t feel comfortable paying $25 either.  I always think back to the quote, “You get what you pay for.”

With that being said, I also have a little tip!  If you are in a big city, look around at salons that are outside of the city.  Look into local towns or smaller suburbs around the big city.  Big cities are always going to be more expensive than the smaller cities/towns.  I drive about 35 minutes to get my lashes filled and it is totally worth it.

Also, make sure you know the brand that you are using. Different eyelash brands are different prices!  Make sure to look into all your options to find what is best for you.

How long do eyelash extensions stay on?

This is another question with many different answers.  When I did my first few sets of lashes, mine stayed full for a day and then started falling off in clumps.  They stayed on for about a week and a half in total.

The Novalash extensions stay on for about six weeks!  They say to get them filled every four, but I never do.   My lashes stay on and the lady that does them is amazing.

It’s really up to you and how often you want to get them filled!

Do eyelash extensions hurt my natural lashes?

I can give a definite answer here.  No!  Eyelash extensions will not hurt your natural lashes.  As long as you have done research on your salon and ask appropriate questions, your lashes will be completely fine.

This is the one question, that made me almost turn eyelash extensions down.  I was so scared my natural lashes wouldn’t grow in anymore.  I was also scared that they wouldn’t grow as long and thick.  They do. 🙂  Just once again, I stress that you go to a reputable salon and ask the proper questions to your esthetician about safety and her training.

How do the eyelash extensions come off?

With Novalash, each extension is glued on to each individual eyelash.  As your natural lash falls out, so do your extensions.  This is why its important to note that we all lose our lashes, usually every four weeks a new set of our natural lashes come in.  Hence, why they ususally have you get them filled every four.

Some days, more lashes may fall off.  Other days, none will fall out at all.  It all depends upon your natural lash cycle.

Where do I go to get them?

Once again, do a lot of research.  One, making sure the salon or esthetician is reputable.  And two, making sure you are getting the best price for the best service.  I did so much research and calling around until I found the perfect gal for me.

How do I take care of my lashes?

This is another big question to think about.  Lash extensions are really not much upkeep.  The only thing you want to know is that any product with Glycol can cause the glue on your lash to loosen.  You do not want to use any glycollic products on your eyes.

Easy solution:  Use baby shampoo to get your eye makeup off!  Simple, easy, cheap, and pain free.

After I wash my face, I usually take a little eyelash brush, and sweep it through a couple times.

Can I put mascara on my lashes?

Yes!  You sure can.  I usually start putting mascara on my lashes about a week into having them filled.  I like the extra voluminous look.  However, you can go without mascara and they still have a definite pop.

Novalash does have a mascara specifically for lash extensions, but I would skip that if I were you. It really didn’t do much for my lashes.  (Just being honest.)

Many people are going to say not to wear waterproof mascara or any mascara with glycol. I followed that rule for a while.  However, I’ve learned as long as you don’t put the mascara on the base of you lash, you won’t have to worry about what mascara you use.  I just put the mascara from the middle to the top of the lash.  I’m no lash expert, but it works for me!

Below are some great mascaras that I like to use with lash extensions!

I hope I answered all of your questions.  If you are thinking about eyelash extensions, my suggestion would be to go for it, girl!  Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below!

With love,

Katelyn

I would of never guessed you could wear mascara with eyelash extensions. What is the process for removing the eye make up? Do you lose any eye lashes? Do you sleep on the side of your face? I love to bury my head into my silk pillow case and doze away! Your lashes look amazing! If I were to do them I want the same results like yours! They just seem so high maintenance and that is my worry. Thank you for sharing this post! Just beautiful! xoxo

I use baby shampoo and gently massage my lashes. I never lose any lashes when I’m washing my face, unless they were already ready to come off.

I sleep on the side, but often times end up buried in my pillow as well, haha! If I find any lashes, they are always in my pillow.

However, it would make sense because all the the other places I lose them, I probably wouldn’t notice.

Thank you! The lashes really aren’t high maintenance for me at all. You have to try them girl! 🙂

Okay, I seriously might have too! I love mascara a lot! So, I am glad to hear you can still use them. But, the length of lashes is what I need and they are just so beautiful on!

Wow these lashes looks so amazing! This is something I would like to try to see how it goes as opposed to gluing them everyday. I love false lashes and I feel they are part of me! Love your blog girl✨?✨

Hi Helena! Thank you! I know. I literally cannot do glued lashes. I would put them on and an hour later I would laugh and my eyelashes would fall out. Calls for some pretty weird moments. LOL 🙂

Aww that’s not good with these glued lashes come off especially if you were laughing? This glue that I have been using for years is called DUO from Sephora and they are pretty good! I know it is a pain taking them off then back on everyday lol! I will consider trying extensions when I am 100% ready?

I haven’t ever heard of that glue. I’m glad it works for you. When I stop getting mine filled, I will try that glue! Thanks for reading girly!

This was user helpful. I had my lashes done once and personally did not like the look of them but I have definitely been curious about trying them again, because I really think the type of lashes and salon makes a huge difference. Thanks for all the awesome tips, I will definitely have to give them another try.

Yes I know! ! Isn’t it funny how one experience can deter you from ever going again? You really should try out a different salon! I can’t stop now haha
